The Pros and Cons of Indoor and Outdoor Hot Tubs

A hot tub is one of the finest accessories you can add to your home. The hot water helps you relax while the powerful jets massage your body and reduce fatigue. Although both indoor and outdoor hot tubs are equally relaxing, there are several differences in installation, maintenance, type, etc. So if you’re wondering how to buy a hot tub, here are some of the pros and cons of indoor vs. outdoor hot tubs.

Pros and Cons of Indoor and Outdoor Hot Tubs

1. Ventilation
Ventilation is one of the key factors that should be kept in mind if you are thinking about whether to buy a hot tub and how to install it. The heat and humidity generated in the hot tub can damage the plaster, wallpaper, paint, and drywall if installed indoors. With an outdoor hot tub, ventilation is effortless, and there is no need to make any more arrangements. This is, however, not the case with indoor hot tubs, and ventilation is required. There might also be mold and mildew growth if you do not have adequate ventilation.

2. Space
One of the most common concerns for hot tubs is the availability of space. If you are placing a hot tub indoors, you have to figure out whether it can be brought in through the front door. Else, you should consider building a new space for the hot tub. However, if there is enough space outdoors, you can place it on the deck or patio. You only have to ensure that the area has a proper foundation to support the weight of the hot tub.

3. Installation
Due to various elements like floor reinforcement, plumbing, ventilation, wiring, etc., the installation of a hot tub indoors is more expensive as compared to installation outdoor. You might also need water-proof building materials if the space does not have them already. Comparatively, an outdoor hot tub can be installed with more ease and the cost involved is also less. The time taken for the installation will also mostly be lesser for the outdoor hot tub.

4. Privacy
While it still depends on the setup of the space in which the outdoor hot tub is placed, privacy is compromised outdoors as compared to an indoor hot tub. It is difficult to keep an outdoor space completely out of sight of the neighbors. This is not an issue with indoor hot tubs, which are private as you are inside your home.

5. Setting
An outdoor hot tub will have a much more natural and beautiful setting as compared to an indoor one. You will probably be able to admire the sunset or gaze at the night sky while relaxing in an outdoor hot tub. In an indoor hot tub, the setting can be beautiful, but might need some more effort with candles and proper mood lighting.
